Taekwondo – WTF

Taekwondo is one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial arts, that teaches more than physical fighting skills. It is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing our spirit and life through training our body and mind. Today, it has become a global sport that has gained an international reputation, and stands among the official games in the Olympics (since 2000 Sydney).

  

The five main elements of Taekwondo-WTF:

1.) Basic technique - the right way of using 'fists and feet'.

2.) Poomsae - a combination of basic actions and movements exercised with an imaginary opponent.

3.) Kyorugi (Sparring) - it consists of 4-basic components (distance, timing, defense and sense of space).

4.) Kyopa (Breaking) - breaking boards with special techniques.

5.) Hosinsul (Self defense) - special defense techniques (grips, throws, etc.).

 

Important dates:

- On 28.May 1973 in Seoul was established the World Taekwondo Federation-WTF.

- On 02.May 1976 was established the European Taekwondo Union - ETU.

- On 17.September 1988 Taekwondo WTF debuted as a demonstration sport at the Olympic Games in Seoul.

- On 04.September 1994 during the IOC session in Paris Taekwondo WTF became an official Olympic sport for the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

- In 1976 Valeri Naydenov started the very first group of people, practicing Taekwondo in Bulgaria.

- On 26.Oktober 1994 was established the Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation-WTF
